In the Bridge, Categories serve as the primary method for organizing menu items. Categories combine the functions of reporting categories and display groups into a single, streamlined entity, simplifying menu management.
This feature allows you to:
Create and manage categories to organize menu items for both display and reporting purposes.
Assign a Reporting Group to a category to ensure accurate financial roll-ups.
Attach existing menu items and modifier groups directly to a category.
- To create a Category, you must assign it to a Reporting Group.
- To archive a Category, you must remove all associated menu items.
To Add a Reporting Category in the Bridge
1. Navigate to the Menu section of the Bridge and select Categories
2. Click the + New Category button
3. Enter the Category Name of the new Reporting Category, e.g., "Fried Sandwiches"
4. In the Items section, click + Add Item to open the selection interface and attach existing menu items to this category
5. Search for specific items using the search bar, then tick the checkboxes next to the desired menu items. You can also toggle Show Selected only to review your choices before clicking Save
6. In the Inherited Settings section, select the appropriate Reporting Group from the drop-down menu
7. In the Modifiers section, use the Modifier Groups multi-select drop-down menu to attach modifier groups to this category
8. Click Create & Activate to save and immediately activate the category. Alternatively, click Create as Inactive to save the category for future use, which creates the category and automatically archives it
To Archive a Category
NOTE: There must be no associated menu items to archive a Category.
1. Navigate to the Menu section of the Bridge and select Categories
2. Click the Category you wish to archive to open the interface
3. Delete all menu item associations for this category by clicking the trash can icon next to each item
4. Click Continue to confirm the item association deletion process
5. Click Archive
6. Click Archive on the pop-up to confirm
To Edit a Category
1. Navigate to the Menu section of the Bridge and select Categories
2. Click the Category you wish to edit to open the interface
3. Update the Category name, Items, Reporting Group, or Modifier Groups as needed
4. Click Save to keep your changes
