The Combine Variants feature is a powerful tool within the Menu Screen builder designed to streamline your POS layout. Instead of displaying every variant of an item as a separate button, this option condenses them into a single, primary button that servers can tap to reveal all available choices in a pop-over sub-menu.
Enabling this feature allows you to:
- Dramatically declutter your POS layout by grouping all variants of an item, like different sizes or flavors, under one button.
- Enhance the speed and usability of your POS for staff by creating a more organized and intuitive menu that is easier to navigate during busy service periods.
To Enable and Configure Combined Variants:
1. After creating Menu Items, adding the desired variants to them, and adding them to a display group, navigate to the Menu section of the Bridge and click Menus
2. Either create a new menu screen from scratch, or click the row of the menu screen you want to enable combined variants for
3. Inside the menu screen editor, tick the box for Combine Variants per Display Group
4. Select the Display Group button by clicking it to configure its variants
5. Scroll down to the menu items and drag the variant tiles to your desired order
Note: How Button Order and Color are Determined
When you use the "Combine Variants" option, the arrangement of your buttons in the Menu Screen builder is critical because it controls how they appear on the POS.
- Option Order: The order of the variant options that appear in the pop-over sub-menu on the POS is determined by the left-to-right, top-to-bottom arrangement of the individual variant buttons in the Menu Screen builder.
- Button Color: The single, consolidated button on the POS will inherit its color from the last variant in that sequence in the builder.
For example, in the "French Fries" screenshot, there are four different colored variant buttons in the builder. Because the last button in the group ("French Fries (Giant)") is purple, the single "French Fries" button that appears on the POS will also be purple.
Based on the above order and color, the menu item variant will show up in the POS like it does in the example below:
