Force closing a check in the POS is a vital tool for ensuring all transactions are accounted for, especially when rare and unexpected issues arise. This process allows users to finalize transactions even when typical closing procedures can't be followed. Some reasons for doing so include:
- System Glitches: When the POS system fails to register a payment, requiring manual intervention.
- End of Day Procedures: Ensuring all checks are closed to balance the day's transactions.
To Force Close a Check in the POS:
1. If logged out to the PIN screen for inactivity, enter your PIN and tap to log back into the POS device
2. At the top right of the POS screen, tap to bring up the POS options
3. Tap End of Day to open the EOD interface
4. Once in the EOD interface, to close a single check, tap the Force Close button next to that check
WARNING: Ensure all payments have been applied to all checks before force closing them, as this could lead to accounting errors.
That check will now be removed from the list:
5. To Force Close all open checks, tap the Force Close All button
6. To confirm closing all open checks, tap Continue; otherwise, tap Cancel
After tapping Continue, all checks will now be force closed and removed from the Open Checks list:
