Restricting Discounts by Menu Items is a crucial feature providing both convenience and strategic value by:
- Facilitating more precise promotional strategies by allowing discounts to target specific items.
- Aiding in managing profitability by preventing discounts on high-cost or low-margin items.
- Example: A restaurant may restrict discounts on a high-end steak dish to maintain profit margins while applying discounts on appetizers to stimulate sales and customer interest.
Prior to restricting discounts by Menu Item, a Standard Discount must first be created. For instructions on creating a Standard Discount, click here.
To Restrict a Discount by a Specific Menu Item:
1. Navigate to the Settings section in the Bridge and select Payments > Standard Discounts
2. Click the row of the Standard Discount you wish to edit
3. Under the Standard Discount Configuration tab, scroll down to the Applies To* drop-down menu and select Item Level to open the Menu Item Restrictions interface at the bottom of the page
4. Click the bar to open the Menu Item Restrictions interface
5. Select the Menu Items you intend to include in the discount by checking the corresponding boxes
For example, to preserve profit margins on a premium steak dish, apply the discount to other items by checking their boxes and leaving the steak dish box unchecked, thereby excluding it from the discount.
6. Click Save to keep your changes
