The Off-Menu Search feature allows users to find and add items to a check directly from the POS terminal's search bar, even if those items are not assigned to a visible Menu Screen button. This is particularly useful for managing large inventories, such as extensive wine lists or retail items, without cluttering the main POS layout. Items added manually or via Bulk Upload in the Bridge are searchable using this feature.
- Search Directly from POS: Use the standard search bar on the POS terminal to find items stored in the Bridge database.
- Flexible Search Terms: Find items by entering their SKU, Item Name, or UPC.
Note:
- To optimize performance and avoid excessive loading, the off-menu search requires a minimum of three characters to be entered before results are displayed.
- Because the search checks the entire Bridge database, items already configured on the current Menu Screen Display Groups might appear twice if they match the search term – once as a direct database match and again listed under their specific Display Group.
- Recommendation: To easily distinguish between regular menu items and specific off-menu items (like unique vintages) in search results, consider establishing a naming convention, such as adding a consistent prefix or suffix (e.g., "BIN-", "-WM") to the Item Name, SKU, or UPC of off-menu items when adding them in the Bridge.
To Add an Off-Menu Item to a Check:
1. If logged out to the PIN screen for inactivity, enter your PIN and tap to log back into the POS device
2. At the top right of the POS screen, tap to bring up the POS options
3. Tap the Check button to open the Check List View, or tap the Floor Plan button to open the Floor Plan View
4. Open the check that will have the off-menu item added:
- By tapping the check in the Checks List view
- Or, tapping the table with that check from the Tables view
- Or, create a new check
5. Tap the search bar at the top of the check screen
6. Type in at least three characters of the SKU, UPC, or Item Name and the results will populate immediately
7. Tap the item to add it to the check
